September Meet Up: They Called Us Enemy

Japanese-American children in an internment camp.

Our September meeting will be Saturday, September 14, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at the Urbana Zine Library in the Urbana-Champaign Independent Media Center, 202 South Broadway, #100, Urbana, IL 61801.

This month we’ll be reading George Takei’s new book They Called Us Enemy, his autobiographical account of a childhood spent in a Japanese-American Internment Camp in Arkansas during World War II. We’ll also read excerpts from Miné Okubo’s 1946 graphic narrative Citizen 13660, and other contemporary cartoons.

Since we’ll be in the Zine Library, we’ll have a chance to look at some comics zines, and learn more about other resources in the IMC. Bring what you’d like to drink and come ready to chat.
